Mindi E. Work
Executive Vice President, Benefits and Individual Life Divisions

Mindi E. Work is executive vice president, Benefits and Individual Life Divisions, for Symetra Financial Corporation and its insurance subsidiaries. She leads Symetra’s workforce benefits, stop loss and individual life businesses, with responsibility for strategy, product development, go-to-market execution and overall financial performance. 

Since assuming leadership of the Benefits Division in October 2025, Ms. Work is guiding the organization through the integration of Dearborn Group’s life and disability (LAD) business. This acquisition positions Symetra to expand its LAD business to approximately $1.1 billion in annualized premium and 2.5 million covered lives.

Ms. Work has led Individual Life since November 2022. Under her leadership, Symetra developed and brought to market in just over a year SwiftTerm®, a term life insurance platform with an end-to-end digital process that takes qualified customers from application to coverage in 18 minutes or less. SwiftTerm was recognized with a Celent Model Insurer Award and a Gartner Eye on Innovation Award for Financial Services.

Previously, Ms. Work was senior vice president and chief of strategy, where she played a key role in multiple corporate initiatives, including the articulation of Symetra’s long-term vision and strategic plan. As vice president, Finance, she led Symetra’s SEC reporting team during the company’s initial public offering in 2010 and was involved in the accounting for Symetra’s 2016 acquisition by Sumitomo Life Insurance Company. She joined Symetra in 2006 from Ernst & Young.

Ms. Work earned a Master of Professional Accounting (MPAcc) from the University of Washington, and a Bachelor of Science in accounting from Seattle University. She is a certified public accountant (CPA).
