Mindi E. Work is senior vice president and chief of strategy for Symetra Financial Corporation and its insurance subsidiaries. She leads the company’s Strategy Office, with oversight for the corporate strategic planning process, including the development, design and business execution of strategic programs that drive Symetra’s efforts to be a more customer-centric business. Ms. Work also heads the technology teams responsible for emerging opportunities, experiences, new lines of business and technologies.
Under Ms. Work’s leadership, Symetra developed and brought to market in just nine months SwiftTerm®, a new term life insurance platform with an end-to-end digital process that takes qualified customers from application to coverage in 25 minutes or less. Launched in June 2021, SwiftTerm has been recognized with a Celent Model Insurer Award, winning in the Innovation Execution category, and a Gartner Eye on Innovation Award for Financial Services.
Ms. Work joined Symetra in 2006 from Ernst & Young. She played a key role in multiple corporate initiatives, including the articulation of Symetra’s long-term vision and strategic plan. As vice president, Finance, she was responsible for certain aspects of financial reporting, accounting policy, management reporting, financial planning and analysis, financial operations, and investment operations, accounting and reporting. In that role, she led Symetra’s SEC reporting team during the company’s initial public offering in 2010 and was involved in the accounting for Symetra’s 2016 acquisition by Sumitomo Life.
Ms. Work earned a Master of Professional Accounting (MPAcc) from the University of Washington, and a Bachelor of Science in accounting from Seattle University. She is a certified public accountant (CPA).
